PROGRESS REPORT
Here is the good news, which was announced on the 22nd at Tony’s farewell presentations in the rain outside the PO.
Continuation of PO service – it has been agreed that the PO have arranged for Colyton PO to have a temporary Post Master who will start on July 4 and continue until the permanent solution commences. The opening hours will continue as at present and will include availability of the car tax service.
It looks very promising that in the future the whole of the current PO business and newsagent/stationeries will together be run from the Little Shop in Colyton. Business negotiations which include the PO are currently taking place.
In the short term it is likely that the Newspaper/stationary shop will commence in the Little Shop at some point in July.
Jane Dauncey, on behalf of the Save Colyton Post Office group, says ‘we do hope that we can achieve this and in the meanwhile Colyton will continue to have a PO service in the centre of the town. We are very pleased that Tony can retire knowing that there the PO service in Colyton is continuing. .
15th June
The Save Colyton Post Office Action Group has identified suitable premises for a relocated Post Office. It is an empty shop opposite the current Post Office and is being marketed by Everett, Masson and Furby. There is considerable scope for new owners to build on the current success of the present Post Office/shop and to add to the new lines to the retail items on offer.
15th May
The Save Colyton Post Office Action Group met with Post Office Ltd on 12th May.
The representatives of the P.O. and the Action group agreed that the P.O. must be maintained if at all possible. P.O. Ltd and the Group are working together to make this happen with the support of Colyton Parish Council, EDDC and DCC.
P.O.Ltd explained that the appropriate service for Colyton is the Post Office Local Service. This will be tailored to the town's needs and will provide, for example, car tax renewal, pension/benefit payments, cash withdrawals, paying in of cash and posting of overseas parcels.
The Action Group has undertaken to invite local businesses to presentation by P.O. Ltd to help identify a suitable location for the Post Office. meanwhile P.O. Ltd has arranged to maintain the current service until June 22nd when it is hoped that progress toward a permanent solution will have been made.
Meanwhile Group organisers Jane Dauncey and Dave Baxendale urge you to keep writing and please keep using Colyton Post Office.
